Hammer bags loot in Golden Isles

Brunswick, GA - Two time O'Reilly Auto Parts United Sprint Car Series www.uscsracing.com championship runner-up Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida had a change in his luck over the weekend. The twenty year-old Martin tallied a second place finish in Friday night's 20 lap O'Reilly USCS preliminary main event. He then followed up by winning his first feature of the 2006 season in the 30 lap O'Reilly USCS Clash on the Coast Finale on Saturday night at Golden Isles Speedway near Brunswick, Georgia.

Martin who has had some things happen that kept him out of victory lane over the past ten to twelve O'Reilly USCS events had it all together in this weekend's competition. Even an approximate 90 minute rain delay each night and, to borrow a football term "poor field position" couldn't hamper the seventh place starting Martin's course to Saturday night's victory lane.

FAYETTEVILLE, GA - The O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series will travel to East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL on November 4-5 for the 4th Annual Fall Brawl. For many O'Reilly USCS regulars on the Outlaw Thunder National Tour, the two-race series will be a homecoming of sorts.

Danny "The Hammer" Martin of Sarasota, FL came on to the national scene of winged outlaw sprint car racing as a 17-year-old driver in 2003 with an East Bay Raceway Park Fall Brawl victory. Martin joined the O'Reilly USCS National Tour fulltime in 2004, and was the series' National Championship Runner-Up.

To cap off a successful season, Martin took the 2004 East Bay Fall Brawl opener for the second straight year. In 2005, Martin will arrive at his home track second in the O'Reilly USCS National point standings with three wins on the season.

Trey Robb, 13, makes history with a feature win

"OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Trey Robb, 13, made history this past Friday night by being the youngest driver in the 51 year history of Oklahoma City’s State Fair Speedway to win an A feature. As Robb raced past the checkered flag, the crowd of approximately 2,200 fans were on their feet rewarding the driver with a standing ovation. Cheering continued as Robb drove his No. 12 car into victory circle and into the record books."

Q&A: Kasey Kahne on Sprint Car Racing

"I know you raced at the Oscaloosa thing, sprint car. If the schedule worked out right, would you want to do that every year? Your thoughts on being a part of that thing again, just the hospitality, fans didn't seem to mob you, but orderly came up and got autographs. Seemed pretty laid back.

That's how it is. That's how sprint car fans are. It seems like they're there to watch the race. You know, I sat in the grandstands at the Knoxville Nationals with all the fans and signed some stuff throughout the night had a good time. I definitely look forward to running Oscaloosa again next year, running the Front Row Challenge and maybe the non-wing race the following night like Tony did. If we ever get back to Michigan during the Knoxville weekend, maybe try at the Nationals, too, depending on where things are at. But I'm a huge dirt, you know, sprint car, wing fan. No matter what, I'm going to always be around those tracks if I can be, if I don't have other commitments."

GASTONIA, NC - Justin Collett of Townsend, DE posted his first career O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series win with a wire-to-wire victory Friday night at Carolina Speedway driving the Collett & Sons Welding JEI Performance/Kriner. The 19-year-old SpeedMart Young Gun earned the K&N Pole Award when the top eight cars from heat race action were inverted for the feature.

Collett was in a hurry all night long, as his team arrived at the track late, missed the draw, and had to start at the tail of the second heat.

"Getting the pole position with the inversion was the key to winning tonight," Collett said. "With the competition the O'Reilly USCS has, I'm not sure I'd be here if I had to start eighth. I wasn't sure we were going to make it here in time to race, but we got here, and had to start at the tail of a heat. I never thought we'd do this well. I figured we'd have to run in the back all night long."

Going Home with Dad

Martin Repeats in Cochran

By Roby Helm

USCS Communications Director

COCHRAN, GA - Danny "The Hammer" Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL won the 30-lap O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series feature race at Cochran Motor Speedway on Saturday night for the second straight year. Martin came from the seventh starting spot to take the lead with five laps to go in the Martin Structures, Inc. Schnee/ZRE.

Martin had an up and down night, as the 19-year-old driver started in the back of his heat race, worked his way up to the third spot, but spun in turn three with two laps to go. Martin came charging right back to finish fourth.

"George Gillespe at PRO Shocks gave me a new set up to try, and it really worked well for us," Martin said. "We started in the back of the heat, when to the front, and then I spun it out. We came back to finish fourth, and I knew we had something. I really love this track!"

Martin also gave his Dad, Danny Martin Sr., a nice birthday present for the second straight year. This marked the fifth win for Martin on a family special occasion like a birthday, or an anniversary. Martin earned the Huggins Cams Hard Charger of the Race Award, and was also the SpeedMart Young Gun of the Race.

Special Occasion Means Martin Wins Again in Georgia

COCHRAN, GA - Danny Martin, Sr. had a birthday this week, today Hammer's lovely girlfriend, Jen Scarbrough was celebrating her birthday too. Team mascot, Tucker the Travelling Sprint Car Dog began an early celebration of his birthday too. On special occasions, Martin wins races.

Martin delivered the goods this time by winning on the fast heavy banking at Cochran Speedway for the second year in a row. Last night Kenny Adams of Malabar, Florida won. Tonight Adams finished second. Martin, Jr., Martin Sr. and Tire Man, Dewey Mixon, took the Food Grade Transport / Martin Structures / eStateTrafficSchool.com Sprinter to victory lane again in the Peach State.

This season's road to victory was strewn with 3 blown motors, 3 failed steering boxes, and 3 broken rear ends. There are 24 races left in the USCS season and mechanical demons have now been cast out. Hammer out braked other competitors coming from Row 4 to take the lead on lap 25 of the 30 lapper. With a Heat Index of 107 degrees, competitors and cars fought the oppressive South Georgia heat.

In a rare showing, a Ford Powered 360 Sprint Car, piloted by Carolina shoe Johnny Bridges came home in third place.

Next the series will burn rubber on the Georgia asphalt at Senoia, Georgia.

Martin Looks For Special Occasion To Return To Winning Ways In Swainsboro And Cochran

Fayetteville, Ga - Danny Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL will be looking for a special occasion to return to his winning ways in O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder action this weekend at Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, GA on Friday night and at Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, GA on Saturday night.

"You just have to forget about what happened, fix what broke, do your weekly maintenance, and go on to the next race," Martin said. "At least we know we were in a position to win most of the races we dropped out of, and that keeps you going. We know we have what it takes to win races, and we're confident we will turn things around."

Rookie Gohn Carries On Family Tradition With O'Reilly USCS Win In Fayetteville

By Roby Helm USCS Communications Director

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Second-generation driver Bryn Gohn of Malabar, FL posted his first career sprint car win Saturday night in the 30-lap O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series feature race at Fayetteville Motor Speedway. The 19-year-old Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Year point leader led every lap in the Milk Movers, Inc./Goodson Farms Shaw/Ott.

"This is unreal," Gohn said after the win. "It really hasn’t sunk in yet, and having never done this before, I'm not really sure what to say!"

Among the accolades Gohn picked up with the win included a victory in the six-lap Air Flow Research Power Dash, the K&N Pole Award, the Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Race Award, the SpeedMart Young Gun of the Race Award, and the Outlaw Racing Disc Brakes Fast Brake of the Race Award.

The victory also carries on a family tradition in sprint car racing, as his late father Daryl Gohn was a winning sprint car driver before loosing his life in a sprint car accident at Pennsylvania's Williams Grove Speedway in 1988 when Bryn was two years old.

Gohn's teammate Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL finished second in the Milk
Movers, Inc./Goodson Farms Shaw/Ott. Not only is Adams Gohn's teammate, but also his stepfather, and he couldn't have been happier if he had won the race himself. Gohn served as Adams' crew chief before getting the chance to drive last season.
